When Sisi was young, both her mother and father passed away, leaving her to fend for herself. Her aunt and uncle began caring for her, but shortly after, they passed away too. By the time she was 9 years old, Sisi had lost four close family members.
That's when our team stepped in, providing tangible, Gospel-centered, holistic care, and reminding Sisi she is seen, known, and loved.
Our new ministry partners in Zambia have been serving children like Sisi for over 15 years as part of New Day Children's Village, a ministry bringing the hope of the Gospel to orphaned and vulnerable children in Zambia. They began with the desire to share the love of Jesus with children in Zambia and hoped the children they served would become faithful leaders in their communities who share the love of Jesus with others.
Blu and Carol, ministry leaders at New Day, shared—
"Our dream became a reality as God used a kitchen-table conversation, a gift of 66 acres of land from the chief of the village, and hundreds of volunteers over the past 15 years to transform a rural area of Zambia into what is now New Day Children's Village."
On campus, there are six care homes for orphaned and vulnerable children, three school blocks, a computer lab, a library, a kitchen and dining hall, a prosthetics clinic, sports fields, a staff housing block, and acres of agricultural land that help support over 50 orphaned and vulnerable children.
Their first group of children are attending university, and several have expressed the desire to return to New Day in the future to work alongside the ministry that raised them.
Last year, she graduated from high school and entered Lifesong Zambia's Gap Year Program. She went on to attend university and is majoring in social work. In the future, she aspires to make a difference in the lives of orphaned and vulnerable children, just like her.
